SQUIRRELS JUST WANT TO HAVE FUN
AT THE HOUSTON BOAT SHOW
Aside from the boats, Twiggy, the world-famous water-skiing squirrel, is perhaps the most popular boat show draw in the country. Touring with her adoptive family for over 20 years, Twiggy will be in action at the 2005 Houston Summer Boat Show, June 8 - 12.
Twiggy, a Florida gray squirrel, will cruise around a 25-foot circular heated pool on a miniature pair of water skis, towed behind a remote-controlled Ski Nautique powerboat operated by her trainer Lou Ann Best of Sanford, Florida.
Having recently appeared on "Late Show with David Letterman," Twiggy has a resume to make any world-class skier jealous. Twiggy has been featured on other TV shows such as the "Rosie O'Donnell Show," "Good Morning America" and "That's Incredible," movies such as "Anchorman" and "Dodgeball," as well as at boat shows and fairs around the globe.
Routinely performing several times each day, every Twiggy performance draws a crowd. Her appeal knows no age boundaries, delighting both young and old.
In 1978, Chuck and Lou Ann Best of Sanford, Florida took in the gray squirrel when Hurricane David blew her from her treetop nest. The couple, avid water skiers, wanted to introduce the new family member to their favorite water sport. Using repetition, affection, and an ample supply of nuts, they taught Twiggy to ski on foot-long skis behind one of their children's remote controlled boats. People began to take notice of this extraordinary feat and bookings poured in.
Spectators are encouraged to bring their cameras to capture Twiggy in action, or be photographed with this amazing squirrel after each performance at the Houston Boat Show,
June 8 - 12 at Reliant Center.
